Electric actuators generally comprise an electric motor,  reduction gearbox, hand wheel for manual override and position feedback devices. Due to the design of the gearbox, the actuators are self-locking and thereby reliable in the case of energy loss. With an integrated reduction gear, a torque level of up to 2,500 Nm is possible. For higher torques, additional intermediate gearboxes are required. Usually, the operation times are between a few secorids and several minutes. For fail safe actuators. (safety position), there are expensive mechanical solutions with spring return on the market and some with internal orexternal battcry backup, in the case of power loss. Electric actuators are compact  units with extensive functionalities. By monitoring the current consumption or hymeans of mechanical methods, it is possible to measure the output torque and draw conclusions about the operating performance or wear of components.
