EN and ISO standards for butterfly valves
The number of EN, ISO, ASTM and other international standards concerning butterfly valves is too large to be listed completely in here, but the following table will list these standards that are necessary to specify the "intended use" and to determine the butterfly valve types, characteristics functions, materials and resting in the supply of valves for industrial applications. The reference to these standards is always otional and should be agreed between customer and valve manufacturer at the order and supply stages.
No. of standard | Title (abbrevevlated) | Content of the standard |
EN 593 | Industrial valves - butterfly valves with metalic body | Valve types Valve body materials Requirements for design and testing of assembled valves Valve marking |
ISO 10631 | Metallic butterfly valves for standard use | Same as EN 593 above |
EN 12266, Part 1 | Industrial valves - Pressure testing and acceptance criteria - Mandator y requirements | Pressure testlng (assembled valves) and testing procedures: P10 = Pressure test of the body P11 = Tightness of the body to outside P12 = Tightness of lhe seat sealing |
EN 12266, Part 2 | Industrial valves - Pressure testing and acceplance criteria Supplementary requirements | Other testing procedures at customer's request, I.e. P20 = Pressure test of "the valve disc P21 = Test of shaft seal tightness (not for butterfly valves) P20 = Functional test (with or without P) and more specific testing at customer's request |
EN 12570 | Industrial valves - Method for dimensioning the operating element | Assignment of manual force as a function of the hand wheel or lever length Maximum admissible manual forces at maximum P at the valve seat for fight closure |
EN 12516, Parts 1-4 | Industrial valves - Shell design strength | Part 1 : Tabulation method for steel valve shells Part 2: Formula calculation method for steel valve shells Part 3: Experimental method for valve shells Part 4: Calculation method for metallic shells other than steel |
EN 16668 | Industrial valves - Requirements and testing for metallic valves subject to pressure | Translates the requirements of the Pressure Directive 2014/68/EU (that are relevant tor piping & vessels) in detail for industrial valves. The content is mandatory especially for valves in the chemicals and petrochemicals processing industry. |
ASME B16.5 | Requirements for metallic flanges | Flange dimensions as per the American standard (ANSI) related to the American pressure classification (Class 150,300,600, etc.) |
ASME B16.34 | Requirements for cast and forged valves with flanged, threaded, welded end connections and valves without flanges ("wafer type") | Covers pressure/temperature ratings, dimensions, tolerances, materials, non-destructive testing requirements, testing and marking of steel grades used for valves, nickel-based and similar alloys. |
EN 1092, Part 1 | Circular flanges for piping made from steel materials Metric standard | Flange dimensions and tolerances Flange sealing surface specification |
EN 1092, Part 2 | Circular flanges for piping made from cast iron Metric standard
ISO 7005-1, | Circular flanges for piping made from steel materials Metric standard
ISO 7005-2 | Circular flanges for pipingmade from cast Iron Metric standard | Flange material pressure/temperature rating |
ASME B16.5 | Pipe flanges and flanged fittings: NPS 1/2 - NPS 24 Inch/metric standard
ASME B16.34 | Large dia steel flanges: NPS 26 - NPS 60 Inch/metric standard
EN 558 | Face-to-face and centre-to-face dimensions of metal valves Inch/metric standard | For installation between flanges of metric and of inch standards |
EN 12982 | Face-to-face dimensions of metal valves Metric standard | For welding into steel pipe systems |
EN19 | Marking of metalic valves | Items 1 - 4:parameters for mandatory marking |
ISO 5209 | Marking of metalic valves | Items 5 - 21: parameters for additional marking |
ISO 5211 | Part-turn (90deg) actuator connection | Flange dimensions necessary for the attachment of part-turn actuators to industrial valves or to intermediate supports; - Driving component dimensions of part-turn actuators necessary for connection to the driving components; - Reference values for torques of the interface and dimensions for coupling types specified in this standard |
EN 15081 | Industrual valves. Mounting kits for part-turn valve actuator connectiom | Connecting piece with a gap between valve and actuator: classification with standardised torque rating - dimensions of the flanged interfaces to valve and actuator - classified coupling types and coupling dimensions |
EN 10204 | Methods of certification NOTE: this standard specifies the method of certification only, not the content of certificates |
